Meghalaya Producer Shines on Global Stage at WAVES 2025
Shillong: A promising 22-year-old electronic music producer hailing from Meghalaya is set to represent Northeast India at the prestigious World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025 in Mumbai.
Mark Ryan Syiemlieh, a resident of Upper Shillong, has achieved recognition as one of the top 10 finalists in ‘Resonate: The EDM Challenge,’ a significant competition organized under the ‘Create in India’ initiative. This noteworthy announcement was made on April 12 by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting in collaboration with the Indian Music Industry.
Expressing his elation, Syiemlieh, who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from St. Anthony’s College, Shillong and is currently based in Mumbai, stated, “Being among the top 10 finalists is truly an honour. It’s a moment of pride and reflects the effort I’ve dedicated to my journey as an artist.”
The young and talented artist, known for his captivating blend of techno, uplifting trance, and house music, lauded the platform for its commitment to nurturing emerging talent. “WAVES has been an outstanding platform. It’s rare to find competitions that genuinely support and uplift emerging talent,” he added.
The fiercely contested competition drew hundreds of submissions from across the nation, with the final selection showcasing a diverse representation of regions including Maharashtra, Assam, Delhi, and Meghalaya. All the accomplished finalists are scheduled to perform live at WAVES 2025, which will take place from May 1 to 4 in the vibrant city of Mumbai.
The initial judging process involved esteemed industry professionals from Lost Stories Academy, including the experienced audio engineer Amey Jichkar, renowned for his work on Bollywood projects and major brand campaigns, and Anshuman Prajapati, a versatile beatboxer and music producer specializing in the genres of Lo-Fi and Hip-Hop.
WAVES 2025 stands as India’s inaugural global summit dedicated to the dynamic fields of media and entertainment, with the overarching goal of establishing the country as a central hub for innovative content creation and technological advancements across a wide spectrum of creative industries.
