Guwahati— The mortal remains of Indian Air Force Corporal Tage Hailyang were received with full military honours at Guwahati airport, where Assam Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah and Guwahati City Police Commissioner Partha Sarathi Mahanta led a solemn ceremony in remembrance of the fallen airman.
A heavy silence hung over the tarmac as officials, security personnel, and civilians gathered to pay their respects. Draped in the tricolour, the casket was greeted with floral tributes and an atmosphere of reverence, reflecting the collective sorrow of a region mourning one of its own. Corporal Hailyang, a native of Tajang village in Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh, was among the victims of the April 22 terrorist attack at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir.
The airman had been visiting the popular tourist destination with his wife when tragedy struck. While his wife survived, the attack claimed the life of the dedicated serviceman, sending shockwaves through both his home state and the wider Northeast.
After the brief but moving tribute ceremony in Guwahati, arrangements were made to transport his remains to Ziro, where final rites will be performed with full military honours.
Minister Baruah expressed the Assam government’s deepest condolences to the bereaved family, stating, “Corporal Hailyang’s sacrifice is a reminder of the courage and commitment of our armed forces. We stand united in grief and in condemnation of this heinous act of terror.”
The state’s gesture of solidarity underlines the deep respect and gratitude for the brave son of the Northeast, whose life was cut short in an act of senseless violence.
