Citizen Action Party-Sikkim Celebrates National Panchayati Raj Day, Highlights Grassroots Democracy

Gangtok: The Citizen Action Party-Sikkim, in collaboration with the All Sikkim Panchayat Welfare Council, marked National Panchayati Raj Day 2025 with a significant event held in Ranipool on Wednesday. The celebration honoured the crucial role of Panchayati Raj institutions in strengthening democracy from the grassroots up and recognized individuals who have contributed to local governance across the state.

Ganesh Kumar Rai, President of Citizen Action Party-Sikkim, presided over the function as the Chief Guest, lending both prominence and purpose to the gathering. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from senior party leaders, serving and former Zilla Panchayats and Panchayats, ex-councillors, Nagar Panchayat members, and committed party supporters.

In his address, Rai emphasized the transformative power of local self-governance and the importance of decentralizing decision-making. “The strength of our democracy begins at the grassroots level. Our panchayats are not just local bodies, but the foundation of a stronger and more inclusive society,” he said, while urging greater community participation in democratic processes.

The gathering served as both a tribute to the work of Panchayati Raj institutions and a reaffirmation of the party’s commitment to empowering rural communities through active and transparent governance.
