CM Conrad Sangma Highlights Tech-Driven Governance and Innovation for Meghalaya’s Future
Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on April 24 underscored the transformative power of technology in governance, healthcare, agriculture, and environmental management, while outlining his broader vision for an IT-driven future for the state. Speaking at the Digital Governance & Emerging Technologies Workshop, Sangma emphasized the practical application of technology to bring about real-world solutions.
“Technology holds a special place for me—it must drive positive change and solve real issues to be truly impactful in governance and the private sector,” the Chief Minister stated in a message shared on X. He cited the state’s successful use of tech-based tools in the MOTHER program, which tracks high-risk pregnancies and enables timely medical intervention. This, he noted, has played a crucial role in significantly reducing maternal and infant mortality rates across Meghalaya.
Sangma also spotlighted the state’s Early Childhood Development (ECD) mission, which leverages digital tools to foster cognitive and holistic growth in young children. In the environmental sector, he explained how data mapping of watersheds, catchment areas, springs, and forest cover is helping manage water resources more efficiently.
Touching upon innovation in agriculture, Sangma reflected on his recent visit to Japan, expressing admiration for the country’s cutting-edge agricultural practices. He noted that the Meghalaya government is actively exploring international collaborations to boost local agricultural productivity using smart and sustainable technologies.
Looking to the future, Sangma reiterated his commitment to developing Shillong into a leading IT hub. He described the state’s IT-driven governance model as central to this ambition, stressing the importance of embracing emerging technologies to improve service delivery, drive development, and enhance the quality of life for Meghalaya’s citizens.
