Tripura Government to Expand Blood Bank Network for Enhanced Public Welfare

Agartala: In a significant move aimed at bolstering public health infrastructure, the Tripura government is set to increase the number of blood banks across the state in the near future. This announcement was made by Chief Minister Manik Saha, who underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of its citizens.

Speaking at a blood donation camp organized in Agartala to commemorate the 70th foundation day of the Deed Writers’ Association, CM Saha lauded Tripura’s commendable position nationwide in blood donation. He expressed hope that this positive trend would continue to flourish.

Highlighting the Deed Writers’ Association’s milestone of completing 70 years, the Chief Minister acknowledged their crucial role in society, assisting common people with land and property matters with trust and legal assurance. He commended their initiative in organizing the blood donation camp as a significant contribution to social responsibility.

CM Saha pointed out the life-saving potential of voluntary blood donation and noted that Tripura currently has 14 blood banks, with 12 being government-operated and two in the private sector. He further elaborated on the recent implementation of a blood classification system in the state, a measure that was previously absent.

Emphasizing the critical need to maintain equilibrium between the demand and supply of blood, the Chief Minister urged young individuals above 18 years of age to actively participate in voluntary blood donation. He clarified the eligibility criteria, stating that healthy individuals up to the age of 60 can donate blood, with women eligible up to three times a year and men up to four times.

Beyond its altruistic value, CM Saha also highlighted the health benefits associated with blood donation, including the opportunity for health check-ups and potential reduction in the risk of blood pressure, heart problems, and other diseases.

The event witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including Agartala Municipal Corporation Corporator Janhvi Das Chowdhury, Jagannath Bari Temple in-charge Kamal Krishna Maharaj, BK Mamata from Prajapita Brahmakumari Ishwariya University, Sadar Sub-Registrar Ranjit Kumar Das, Deed Writers Association Secretary Pradip Kumar Pal, and social worker Shyamal Kumar Deb, among other prominent figures.
