Assam Congress Chief Accuses CM Himanta Biswa Sarma of Orchestrating Attack on Party Leaders

Guwahati: In a dramatic escalation of political tensions in Assam, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Bhupen Borah has directly accused Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of orchestrating a violent attack targeting Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi and MLA Sibamoni Bora.

Speaking to reporters from Sonapur Field, Borah alleged that “BJP-backed goons” carried out a premeditated assault that left both leaders injured and caused significant damage to four to five vehicles belonging to Congress workers. He further warned that the Congress party would deliver a strong political response in the 2026 elections.

Recounting the terrifying ordeal, Pradyut Bordoloi described how the assailants used rods to smash the windows of their vehicles and attempted to physically attack the occupants. “They intended to kill us,” Bordoloi said, recalling how he and others survived by ducking and hiding between the seats while the attackers repeatedly struck at the windows and aimed for their heads. MLA Sibamoni Bora, who was alongside Bordoloi during the incident, echoed his account and emphasized that it marked the third attack she had faced, accusing Chief Minister Sarma of being directly responsible for the violence. “It is clear this was a pre-planned assault,” Bora said.

The Congress party has strongly condemned the attack, demanding an impartial investigation into the incident and holding the state leadership accountable for what they described as a blatant and dangerous attack on democracy.
