Sikkim: Gangtok District Clinches Top Honours at State Karate Championship Amidst Inclement Weather
Gangtok: Gangtok witnessed the successful culmination of the 21st State Karate Championship, where the spirited athletes representing Gangtok District emerged as the overall team champions. The unwavering dedication of the participants shone brightly despite the persistent and challenging weather conditions that marked the two-day event.
The Sikkim Karate Do Association orchestrated the championship, which brought together skilled karatekas from all corners of the state. Competitors hailing from the six districts showcased their mastery of the martial art across a diverse range of age groups and competitive divisions, creating a vibrant display of talent and discipline.
The final day of the tournament was graced by the presence of esteemed guests, including Lok Nath Sharma, the distinguished MLA for Geyzing Bermiok Constituency, who served as the chief guest. Joining him was Jacob Khaling, the Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, who attended as the guest of honour, further underscoring the significance of the sporting event.
The championship also drew the support of several prominent community figures. Suman Tamang, Rajen Subba, Ganga Limboo, and Dr RB Biswakarma were among those present, with Dr Biswakarma notably sponsoring the official T-shirts for the event, demonstrating a strong commitment to fostering sports within the community.
Despite facing relentless heavy rainfall throughout both days of the competition, the organisers earned commendation for their remarkable commitment to maintaining the original schedule.
