Abdullah Calls for PM’s Direct Response on Pakistan After Pahalgam Attack
National: In a pointed demand, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) chief Farooq Abdullah pressed for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to publicly state India’s planned response to Pakistan in the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22nd. Speaking to journalists just prior to a special session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly convened to address the incident, Abdullah stated, “Ask the Prime Minister what response should be given to Pakistan,” when directly questioned about potential retaliatory actions.
Adding to the collective outcry against the violence, National Conference chief whip Mubarak Gul characterized the attack as a heinous act, a “murder of entire humanity.” Gul stressed the foreign nature of such violence to the region, stating, “Taking the life of an innocent is akin to killing all humanity. This attack is deeply condemned across Kashmir.”
Congress MLA Nizamuddin Bhat, in a separate development, offered commentary on statements made by J&K Congress President Tariq Hameed Karra, suggesting that Karra’s remarks should be interpreted within a wider context.
Concurrently, within the assembly, Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary presented a resolution formally condemning the Pahalgam attack. The resolution also expressed support for the diplomatic measures undertaken by the Union Government, following a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security.
