Assam: Youth Killed in Wild Buffalo Attack Sparks Human-Wildlife Conflict Concerns in Jamugurihat
Guwahati: A tragic incident unfolded in Assam’s Jamugurihat area on Monday, April 28, when a young man, Dildar Hussain of Bogara Ati village, was fatally attacked by a wild buffalo. The deadly encounter occurred in the early hours of the morning as Hussain had gone to the fields to release his cattle for grazing.
According to local sources, the wild buffalo, which had been sighted roaming the nearby forest fringes in recent days, charged at Hussain without warning. The sudden and aggressive nature of the attack left him with fatal injuries before any help could arrive. Alarmed villagers rushed to the spot upon hearing his cries, but were unable to save him.
Forest department officials were immediately informed and are now monitoring the area closely to track the animal’s movements and prevent further incidents. Preliminary steps have been taken to survey wildlife activity in the region and assess potential risks to surrounding communities.
The incident has reignited concerns about the growing frequency of human-wildlife conflict, especially in villages bordering forest zones. Residents are urging authorities to strengthen wildlife patrols, install early warning systems, and implement preventive strategies to safeguard lives and livestock.
As the village mourns the loss of a young life, the call for urgent and sustainable wildlife management has grown louder in Jamugurihat and other similarly vulnerable areas.
