Assam Gears Up for NEET-UG 2025 with Stringent Measures Following Malpractice Concerns

Guwahati, Assam – With the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) (NEET-UG) 2025 slated for tomorrow, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today conducted a comprehensive review of the final arrangements, emphasizing the implementation of rigorous measures aimed at guaranteeing a transparent and equitable examination process throughout the state.

Responding to earlier apprehensions regarding potential irregularities at select private examination venues, the Assam government has proactively introduced a series of reforms intended to safeguard the sanctity of the crucial medical entrance examination.

Notably, sources within the Ministry of Education have indicated a significant shift in the designation of NEET-UG centres this year, with a majority now situated within government-run or government-aided educational institutions across Assam.

“This time, our focus is unwavering on enforcing strict protocols to prevent any form of malpractice, ensuring that only genuinely deserving candidates are selected,” Chief Minister Sarma affirmed. He further disclosed the deployment of dedicated monitoring teams, comprising senior government officials, to supervise the examination process in every district of the state.

This decisive action follows a confidential inquiry conducted by the Assam Police earlier in the year, which unearthed concerning patterns of unusually elevated scores originating from certain private examination centres. Consequently, Chief Minister Sarma convened a high-level virtual meeting on April 14, engaging with top state officials and the Director General of the National Testing Agency (NTA), where the critical need for intensified oversight of the examination was underscored.

“NEET, being an examination of paramount importance, warrants our complete dedication. We are mobilizing all available resources to ensure its fair and seamless execution,” Chief Minister Sarma conveyed in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

According to state officials, these proactive reforms constitute a key component of the Assam government’s overarching commitment to upholding meritocracy and reinstating public confidence in vital national-level examinations.
