Gaurav Gogoi Slams Himanta Biswa Sarma for Ignoring Assam’s Core Issues, Vows to Fight for State’s Future

Guwahati: At a charged election rally in Kalgachiya, Barpeta on May 3, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi launched a scathing attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, accusing the BJP-led government of ignoring critical public concerns while indulging in personal attacks and diversionary tactics.

Gogoi emphasized pressing issues like rising school dropout rates, increasing child labor, and the crumbling state of government schools. “The Chief Minister is obsessed with my children. But my commitment lies with the children of Assam,” Gogoi declared, positioning himself as a voice for the state’s youth.

His remarks came in response to a recent remark by Sarma, who controversially challenged Gogoi to prove his child’s Indian citizenship, vowing to resign if proven wrong. Gogoi dismissed the statement as a ploy to divert attention from real governance failures.

Speaking to the press post-rally, Gogoi raised alarm over voter roll discrepancies during the first phase of polling and announced plans to lodge a formal complaint with the Election Commission.

He further took aim at BJP ministers, alleging a “race” among five cabinet members to accumulate land, even as ordinary people continued to struggle. On the black flag protests he faced in Nalbari, Gogoi said they were politically orchestrated and went against the democratic ethos of the region.

Commenting on political activist Akhil Gogoi, the Congress MP said, “He attacks everyone — be it the Congress, BJP, or intellectuals like Hiren Gohain. Only he knows his political agenda.”

Gogoi also touched on Indo-Pakistan tensions, expressing support for firm action but criticized the BJP for allegedly using foreign policy as a tool for domestic political gain.

Reiterating his appeal to voters, Gogoi urged people to look beyond distractions and focus on restoring good governance and accountability in Assam.
