Meghalaya: Trio Nabbed Near Umsning with Heroin Cache
Shillong: Ri-Bhoi law enforcement apprehended three individuals late Friday, following a successful interception of their vehicle near Umsning. The operation, executed by the Ri-Bhoi District Executive Force (DEF), yielded the recovery of more than 10 grams of suspected heroin.
The decisive action stemmed from credible intelligence, prompting the DEF team to strategically position themselves along the crucial Guwahati-Shillong highway. Their vigilance paid off around 9:45 p.m. when they halted a Maruti Baleno bearing registration number ML-05AB-9902. At the time of the interception, the vehicle was proceeding from the direction of Nongpoh towards Shillong.
Upon conducting a meticulous search of the car and its occupants, the police discovered approximately 10.9 grams of a substance believed to be heroin. The three individuals taken into custody have been identified as Wellborn Khongjoh, also known by the alias Bull and residing in Kynjoin Umran, along with Fedrick Kharkrang and Pascal Kharkrang, both hailing from Shangbangla within the Ri-Bhoi district.
Preliminary police reports suggest that the arrested group was allegedly in the process of transporting the illicit drugs for delivery to unidentified recipients. Authorities have officially registered a case and have initiated a comprehensive investigation aimed at dismantling the drug trafficking network, including tracing the origin of the seized narcotics and identifying any additional individuals involved.
