CM Conrad Sangma Inaugurates Solar-Powered Classrooms in Tura to Boost Digital Learning
TURA, Meghalaya — Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Sunday inaugurated newly developed solar-powered classrooms at the Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School in Tura, marking a significant step towards bridging the digital divide in Meghalaya’s remote and power-deficient regions.
The solar-equipped classrooms are designed to provide an uninterrupted power supply, enabling a stable, digitally-enabled learning environment for students. With this advancement, the government aims to enhance classroom experiences through the use of interactive and tech-driven educational tools, encouraging both students and teachers to embrace digital learning practices more effectively.
Implemented under a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) collaboration, the project brings together the efforts of Global Himalayan Expedition (GHE), the PA Sangma Foundation, and Shree Cement. The Chief Minister extended his heartfelt appreciation to the partners, acknowledging their shared vision of empowering communities through sustainable development and inclusive education.
“This initiative reflects our commitment to equitable education and sustainable development. We thank our partners for helping us move closer to a future where every student, regardless of their background, has access to quality education,” Sangma said during the inauguration ceremony.
The solar-powered classroom initiative is expected to set a precedent for similar sustainable educational solutions across the state, especially in rural and underserved areas.
