Tripura: Ganja Smuggling Attempt Foiled at Agartala Railway Station, Two Bihar Women Nabbed

Agartala: In a coordinated effort, Tripura’s Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) successfully intercepted a significant drug trafficking attempt at Agartala Railway Station in the early hours of today, May 6th.

The joint operation led to the apprehension of two women hailing from Bihar who were allegedly attempting to smuggle a substantial quantity of cannabis to Punjab.

Tapas Das, the Officer-in-Charge of GRP Agartala, revealed that the two accused individuals were found in possession of 22.405 kilograms of dry ganja.

The contraband was meticulously concealed within six packets, which were further hidden inside two pit bags and a trolley bag carried by the women.

Initial investigations have indicated that this was not an isolated incident. Authorities suspect that the arrested duo had previously utilized trains departing from Agartala on multiple occasions to transport illicit narcotics, suggesting an established trafficking route.

The apprehended individuals have been formally identified as Manju Devi, aged 45 and a resident of the Lakshmisharai district, and Rachana Devi, aged 36 and a resident of the Bhagalpur district, both located in the state of Bihar.

According to Officer-in-Charge Das, preliminary inquiries suggest that the seized ganja was intended for distribution in the state of Punjab. In the black market, the estimated value of the confiscated narcotics is approximately ₹4.5 lakh. Consequently, a formal case has been registered at the Agartala GRP police station, invoking the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
