Tripura Invests ₹67 Crore to Transform Gomati District into Tourism Hotspot
Agartala: Tripura’s tourism sector is poised for significant growth as Chief Minister Manik Saha inaugurated a substantial infrastructure development project worth ₹67 crore in the Gomati district. The ambitious initiative will focus on enhancing the tourism appeal of Chabimura, Fatik Sagar, and Amar Sagar.
The project is being undertaken as part of the Asian Development Bank (ADB)-funded Tripura Urban and Tourism Development Project (TUTDP). This strategic move aims to bolster both eco-tourism and the rich cultural heritage of the region, promising a facelift to these key locations.
The foundation stone laying ceremony took place at Chabimura in Amarpur, witnessing the presence of Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, MLA Ranjit Das, and several high-ranking officials. These included UK Chakma, the Secretary of the Tourism Department; Tarit Kanti Chakma, the District Magistrate and Collector of Gomati; and Namit Pathak, the Superintendent of Police for Gomati district.
The event was overseen by Rabitra Jamatia, the Chairman of the Block Advisory Committee for the Amarpur RD Block, and meticulously organized under the guidance of Prashant Badal Negi, who holds the dual responsibility of Managing Director of the Tripura Tourism Development Corporation Ltd. (TTDCL) and Director of the Tourism Department.
Chabimura, already famous for its captivating ancient rock carvings along the Gomati River, is set to become a premier tourist destination through improved infrastructure and a focus on eco-friendly tourism practices. Similar enhancements are planned for Fatik Sagar and Amar Sagar, with the overarching goal of attracting a larger influx of both domestic and international visitors to the state.
This development is in line with Tripura’s larger vision of establishing itself as a crucial gateway to Southeast Asia, capitalizing on the connectivity offered by the Chittagong Port in neighboring Bangladesh. By improving infrastructure and promoting tourism, the state aims to stimulate economic growth and create new opportunities.
The involvement of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) highlights the importance of this project within Tripura’s broader tourism development strategy. The TUTDP is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life and infrastructure in key tourist areas across the state.
Through these concerted efforts, Tripura anticipates a significant increase in tourist arrivals, the generation of employment opportunities for local communities, and the preservation of its valuable cultural heritage, all contributing to the overall economic progress of the state.
