Sharif Condemns India’s “Cowardly Attack,” Vows Resolute Response
Islamabad – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has vehemently denounced India’s recent military action, codenamed Operation Sindoor, characterizing the precision strikes on alleged terror camps within Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir as a “cowardly attack” on sovereign Pakistani territory.
In a strongly worded statement released via his official social media channels, Sharif conveyed the gravity of the situation, stating, “The treacherous enemy has launched a cowardly attack on five locations within Pakistan. This heinous act of aggression will not go unpunished.” He underscored the severity of the perceived transgression, setting the stage for a potentially volatile escalation.
Sharif further emphasized Pakistan’s stance, labeling the Indian strikes as “unprovoked” and firmly asserting the nation’s inherent right to retaliate. “Pakistan reserves the absolute right to respond decisively to this unprovoked Indian attack — a resolute response is already underway,” he declared, indicating ongoing actions by Pakistani forces.
The Prime Minister sought to project an image of national unity and unwavering resolve, affirming, “The people of Pakistan and its forces are fully prepared to confront and defeat any threat with our strength and determination. The enemy will never be allowed to achieve its malicious aims.” He aimed to bolster national morale amidst the heightened tensions.
India, in its earlier statements, justified the May 7 strikes, claiming they were targeted, non-escalatory precision actions against nine terror-linked sites, conducted in direct response to the devastating April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in the loss of 26 civilian lives. The conflicting narratives from both nations have amplified concerns within the international community. The region remains on high alert, with global observers closely monitoring the precarious situation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
