Assam Police Seize Drugs Worth Rs 4.5 Crore in Cachar, Crack Down on Pro-Pakistan Voices
SILCHAR/GUWAHATI — In a major breakthrough in the fight against narcotics, Assam Police arrested two individuals from Salchapra in Silchar’s Cachar district and seized drugs valued at Rs 4.5 crore, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced.
The operation, led by the Cachar district police, resulted in the confiscation of 847 grams of heroin and 4.035 kilograms of opium. “Assam Police is unstoppable and the mission is clear: #AssamAgainstDrugs,” the Chief Minister declared on social media platform X, praising the relentless crackdown.
Officials confirmed that all necessary legal formalities have been initiated against the arrested persons. The seizure marks another high-value success in the state’s sustained war on drugs, which has intensified under Sarma’s leadership.
In a separate development, Assam Police also apprehended two more individuals accused of “defending Pakistan on Indian soil” in the aftermath of the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The arrests of Sajid Ahmed from Sonitpur and Rojan Ali from Goalpara bring the total number of such detentions to 45.
“Update on crackdown against traitors for defending Pakistan on Indian soil. So far, 45 Anti-Nationals have been parked in our Jails. We are on the lookout for more,” Sarma posted, underlining his government’s stern stance on anti-national activities.
The twin actions—one against the drug menace and the other targeting those endorsing hostile narratives—reflect Assam’s tightened internal security and zero-tolerance approach toward threats, both external and internal.
