Tripura CM Manik Saha Urges Swift Action on Drinking Water Supply Gaps
AGARTALA— Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha has called for immediate measures to address drinking water shortages in the state, instructing officials to fast-track pipeline upgrades and expand water treatment capacity in affected areas.
Chairing the 5th meeting of the Tripura Jal Board at the State Secretariat, Dr. Saha emphasized the urgency of ensuring access to purified drinking water in underserved regions. “Arrangements must be made to provide drinking water quickly in areas where there is still a problem. If necessary, initiatives should be taken to install new pipelines instead of old ones,” he said.
Recognizing the persistent issue of iron contamination in many parts of Tripura, the Chief Minister pushed for the installation of more iron removal plants and advocated for a structured approach to managing water distribution. He stressed the need for transparent and systematic guidelines to regulate water supply connections, particularly for residential flats.
Dr. Saha also directed officials to rigorously test water quality before distribution and to prioritize regular maintenance of water ATMs, especially in areas lacking piped connections.
The meeting aligns with the state’s ongoing efforts to bolster public health infrastructure and ensure equitable access to safe drinking water for all citizens.
