CM Conrad Sangma Inspects Newly Completed Polo Mall, Eyes Early Launch to Boost Shillong’s Urban Growth
Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma today toured the newly completed Polo Mall in Shillong, a landmark development under the city’s Smart City initiative that is set to transform the region’s commercial and entertainment landscape. The six-storey structure, constructed at a cost of ₹85 crore by Badri Rai Company, marks one of the most ambitious urban infrastructure projects in the state capital to date.
Following the inspection, the Chief Minister confirmed that while construction is complete, the process to lease out commercial spaces is underway. “Hopeful to see the Mall opening in few months,” Sangma noted in a social media post, expressing optimism about the mall’s imminent public debut.
Spread over a built-up area of 1.5 lakh square feet, the Polo Mall boasts 90 retail units, a modern food court, a children’s recreational zone, and electric vehicle charging stations. With 12 escalators, five elevators, and mechanised parking facilities, the mall has been designed to meet the demands of a growing urban population seeking convenience and quality in their shopping experience. The top two floors are reserved for office spaces, offering additional commercial utility within the same complex.
Officials anticipate that once operational, the Polo Mall will create hundreds of jobs and serve as a key revenue generator for the local economy, apart from addressing the long-standing demand for a premium shopping and leisure destination in Shillong. The facility is also expected to attract tourists and enhance the city’s image as a rising urban hub in the Northeast.
As the government finalises tenancy agreements, the Polo Mall stands ready to open its doors, signalling a new chapter in Shillong’s urban evolution driven by smart planning and economic vision.
