Mizoram CM Lays Foundation for Rs 20.64 Crore Mega Egg Farm in Thenzawl
THENZAWL — In a major step towards boosting Mizoram’s self-sufficiency in food production, Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Thursday laid the foundation stone for a Rs 20.64 crore mega egg production farm in Thenzawl, located in the Serchhip district. The facility, once completed, is expected to produce up to 70,000 eggs per day, addressing the state’s growing dependence on imported poultry products.
Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony, the Chief Minister highlighted the state’s current annual egg consumption of over Rs 22 crore, lamenting the lack of large-scale poultry infrastructure within Mizoram. He said the new farm is a strategic response to the demand-supply gap, aimed at achieving greater food security and economic self-reliance.
The event also saw the laying of the foundation stone for a bailey bridge at Dilpui, a scenic natural lake and popular tourist destination. Additionally, Lalduhoma inaugurated a new mithun conservation centre, underscoring his government’s broader commitment to rural development, biodiversity, and sustainable farming.
The initiatives, the Chief Minister noted, were part of the promises made during the North Eastern Council’s plenary session in Shillong earlier this year, where he had emphasized the urgent need for infrastructure to support Mizoram’s agri-allied sectors.
The event was attended by Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister C. Lalsawivunga, Rural Development Minister Lalnilawma, and Zoram People’s Movement legislator V. Malsawmtluanga, who all lauded the project as a landmark move for both economic development and food sustainability in the state.
