Assam CM Congratulates Catholic Community on New Pope’s Election
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulated the Catholic community worldwide on the historic election of Cardinal Robert Prevost as the new Pope, marking a significant milestone in the Catholic Church’s history.
Prevost, 69, has become the first Pope from the United States, taking the name Pope Leo XIV.
In a post on X, Sarma extended his congratulations, saying, “Congratulations to all the Catholics around the world on the election of Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost as the new Pope – Pope Leo XIV.” This gesture highlights the Chief Minister’s respect for the global Catholic community.
Cardinal Robert Prevost, a member of the Augustinian religious order, has brought a new era of leadership to the Catholic Church. His election is seen as a significant moment for the Church, given his American roots and Augustinian heritage.
