Sikkim’s Pakyong District Amplifies Land Revival Mission with Youth-Focused Platform
Gangtok: The Additional District Collector Development Office in Pakyong, Sikkim, has announced the latest evolution of its highly successful Mission Revival of Barren Land for Cultivation. Now in its 35th iteration, the initiative has launched an innovative platform known as the CONNECT EARTH SWEAT CONTRIBUTIONS CENTER, signaling a fresh approach to engaging the community.
This impactful mission, a collaborative effort supported by the Zilla and Gram Panchayats, is driven by the district’s Rural Development Department. Crucially, it receives technical expertise from the Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, and Cooperation departments. Their combined efforts are focused on converting previously unproductive land into thriving agricultural areas, breathing new life into both the soil and the local communities.
What began as the “Friday Field/Farm Day” initiative has blossomed into a significant community movement centered around large-scale agriculture and horticulture. By reclaiming and cultivating neglected land, the mission not only provides vital support to local farmers but also enhances regional food security and champions environmentally responsible farming methods throughout the district.
The renaming and reimagining of the movement as the CONNECT EARTH SWEAT CONTRIBUTIONS CENTER embodies a strategic shift towards greater inclusivity. A key focus of this new phase is the active involvement of young people and young government employees. They are being encouraged to actively participate in field work, specifically without footwear, to cultivate a profound connection with the earth, fostering physical and mental well-being in the process.
The District Administration has issued a widespread invitation to all young residents and employees to become part of this transformative endeavor. Participation in the initiative offers a unique trifecta of benefits: the chance to champion sustainable agriculture by acquiring eco-friendly farming knowledge and empowering local agriculturalists, the opportunity to enhance personal health and well-being through immersive nature-based activities that nurture both body and mind, and the profound satisfaction of contributing to a more resilient and self-sufficient future for the state.
