Assam: Bongaigaon Panchayat Vote Count Underway; Literary Figure Secures Victory
Guwahati: Bongaigaon of Assam, commenced the crucial vote counting for its Panchayat elections this morning, May 11th, with results anticipated throughout the day. Two centers, Bongaigaon College and Abhayeswari Higher Secondary School, are currently bustling with activity as officials meticulously tally the ballots.
The district’s electoral landscape encompasses 12 Zila Parishad seats, 65 Anchalik Panchayat member posts, and a substantial 650 Panchayat member positions. However, a portion of the electoral process concluded prior to the count, with one Zila Parishad member, 10 Anchalik Panchayat members, and 47 Panchayat members already declared victorious without contest.
Adding a unique narrative to the election’s outcome, Paridhi Sharma, a prominent literary figure known by the pen name Dhruvajyoti Saikia, has successfully transitioned into grassroots politics. Sharma, whose writings under the name Dr. Paridhi Sharma previously ignited widespread discussion across Assam, secured a win for the ward member seat in No. 6 under the Dikhow Mukh Gaon Panchayat, contesting with the support of the Congress party. This victory marks a significant shift in Sharma’s career, moving from the realm of literary expression to direct political engagement.
