A Silent Revolution: PM-KISAN Empowers Arunachal Farmers
ITANAGAR – In a significant move to bolster the state’s agricultural backbone, nearly one lakh farmers from Arunachal Pradesh have received a fresh infusion of funds under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. The latest instalment, part of a nationwide disbursement, was released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 2nd from an event in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, benefiting around 9.7 crore eligible farmers across the country with a total of about ₹20,500 crore.
State Agriculture Minister Gabriel Denang Wangsu lauded the scheme, calling it a “silent revolution” for the state’s cultivators. He announced that ₹20 crore was directly transferred into the bank accounts of 99,797 farmers in Arunachal Pradesh, pushing the total financial assistance provided to farmers in the state under the scheme to over ₹331 crore.
Wangsu emphasised that the scheme has been a game-changer, empowering farmers who were previously at the mercy of moneylenders. He highlighted that this technology-driven financial assistance is a testament to the Centre’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the agricultural community through direct benefit transfers.
The instalment’s impact was also felt at the ground level, with a live-streaming of the programme organised in Hapoli, Lower Subansiri district, where 450 local beneficiaries gathered to witness the event. The gathering saw the presence of Deputy Commissioner Oli Perme, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Pura Dollo, and other officials, underscoring the local administration’s support for the initiative.
Launched in 2019, the PM-KISAN scheme is a flagship welfare initiative that provides eligible landholding farmer families with an annual financial support of ₹6,000, disbursed in three equal instalments of ₹2,000 each. The funds are directly credited into their bank accounts, aiming to provide a steady income and help them meet their agricultural and household needs.
