Aadhaar Enrollment Drive Gains Momentum in Barpeta, Ensuring Seamless Student Identification

The Aadhaar enrollment initiative for students is progressing rapidly in Assam’s Barpeta district, with the District Administration, led by District Commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha, IAS, intensifying efforts to ensure all eligible students receive their unique identification numbers. Schools across the district have become key centers for this drive, streamlining the process for students and parents alike.

With Aadhaar biometrics updates being mandatory at two critical age groups—5–7 years and 15–17 years—many aspirants for national-level exams like NEET, JEE, and CUET have previously faced authentication issues due to outdated records. Addressing this challenge, the administration launched Aadhaar enrollment and updation camps in schools starting in August 2024, successfully completing the process in 158 schools. So far, Aadhaar details for 21,413 students have been updated, and 2,284 new student enrollments have been recorded.

To ensure maximum coverage, special camps have been organized, minimizing disruption to students’ academic schedules. Additionally, mobile enrollment units have been deployed to reach students in remote areas, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to inclusive access.

“The Aadhaar card is crucial for availing various government benefits, including scholarships and competitive exam registrations. We are committed to covering all students under this initiative,” said Geetashri Lachit, ACS, Additional District Commissioner cum Nodal Officer for Aadhaar in Barpeta.

Parents and school authorities have been urged to cooperate and provide the necessary documents to expedite the process. Students who have already enrolled are encouraged to verify their details to prevent future discrepancies.

With hundreds of students registering daily, authorities have assured that the drive will continue until all eligible students in Barpeta receive their Aadhaar cards, ensuring seamless access to educational and government benefits.
