AAP Assam President Demands Clarification from Congress on Opposition Unity for Lok Sabha Elections

Guwahati, 20th March: Bhaben Choudhury, President of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Assam, has raised concerns over the alleged dissemination of false information by Congress-AJP candidates regarding their affiliation with the United Opposition Forum of Assam (UOFA) or the INDIA alliance. In a letter addressed to Shri Bhupen Bora, President of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) and President of UOFA, Choudhury emphasized the significance of opposition unity in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Choudhury urged an immediate cessation of misleading statements and called for strict disciplinary action against those responsible. He demanded that APCC release an official declaration by the 16 parties under the UOFA, announcing consensus Lok Sabha candidates within 24 hours.

Warning of the absence of any opposition or INDIA alliance in Assam if the declaration is not produced within the specified timeframe, Choudhury criticized Congress for allegedly obstructing opposition unity. He accused Congress-AJP candidates of spreading misinformation by falsely claiming association with the UOFA or INDIA alliance in the media.

Choudhury appealed to the media to avoid amplifying falsehoods propagated by Congress-AJP candidates and to recognize the independent election campaigns of parties such as AAP, TMC, and CPM under the UOFA banner.

Highlighting AAP’s commitment to fostering opposition unity, Choudhury cited their decision to withdraw candidature from the Guwahati Lok Sabha seat. He called on the Congress party to reciprocate by withdrawing its candidates from the Dibrugarh and Sonitpur Lok Sabha seats, where AAP is contesting, with the shared objective of defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
