AAP MP Sanjay Singh Suspended from RS for this week
Guwahati: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh has been suspended from the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday for the remainder of the current week for yelling epithets, shredding papers, and hurling them at the Chair on the previous day.
Both Houses repeatedly adjourned on the eighth day of the Monsoon Session after opposition lawmakers’ outrage at the suspension of 23 MPs (four from the Lok Sabha and 19 from the Rajya Sabha), among other problems including price increases, GST increases, and inflation.
A weeklong ban was imposed on Tuesday on 19 Rajya Sabha members, including Sushmita Dev, Santanu Sen, and Dola Sen of the TMC.
Four Congress members have been suspended for the remainder of the session, including Manickam Tagore, Ramya Haridas, Jothimani, and TN Prathapan.
Congressman Shashi Tharoor criticised the suspension, calling it “disgraceful” and “a catastrophic breakdown of relations between the government and the opposition.”
The Monsoon Session officially started on July 18 and is set to expire on August 12.
According to a bulletin issued by the Lok Sabha secretariat, this session will see a total of 29 measures submitted in Parliament, 24 of which are new.
