AAP Unveils Candidates for Punjab By-Elections as Congress Calls for Postponement

National: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has officially announced its candidates for the upcoming by-elections in Punjab, set to take place on November 13.

The party has nominated Gurdeep Singh Randhawa for Dera Baba Nanak, Ishaan Chabbewal for Chabbewal, Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon for Gidderbaha, and Harinder Singh Dhaliwal for Barnala.

In a separate development, Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa, who serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, has urged the Election Commission to postpone the by-elections. Bajwa expressed concerns regarding the timing of the polls, which coincides with the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

He argued that this overlap could hinder voter participation, emphasizing the need for citizens to fully engage in the religious observance.

In a statement on social media, Bajwa requested that the elections be delayed to ensure the public can celebrate the occasion without distraction.

The Election Commission, which announced the by-elections for a total of 48 assembly seats across 15 states on October 15, is under pressure to consider these requests. Alongside Punjab, by-elections will also occur in states such as Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Assam, and Maharashtra, with results slated to be revealed on November 23.

As the political landscape heats up in Punjab, the actions of both AAP and Congress indicate a strategic focus on mobilizing voter support during this critical election period.
