AASU Chief Advisor Slams Misrepresentation of Assamese in Cybercrime Caller Tune
Assam: Dr. Samujjal Bhattacharjya, Chief Advisor of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO), has expressed strong displeasure over the misrepresentation of the Assamese language in Assam’s cybercrime awareness caller tune.
In a statement on his official X handle, Dr. Bhattacharjya criticized the pronunciation in the caller tune as “severely butchered,” describing it as a disrespect to the language’s rich heritage. He emphasized that Assamese, recently recognized as a “Classical Language,” deserves accurate representation in all mediums, especially in public campaigns.
“The cybercrime awareness caller tune in Assam is insulting our Classical Language by severely butchering Assamese pronunciation. This is unacceptable for a language with such rich heritage and cultural significance,” Dr. Bhattacharjya posted.
He called on authorities to replace the current tune with one that preserves the linguistic authenticity of Assamese while effectively communicating the cyber awareness message.
The criticism comes at a time when Assamese has achieved the prestigious status of a Classical Language, underscoring its historical and cultural importance. Dr. Bhattacharjya noted that such misrepresentation tarnishes this milestone and urged immediate corrective measures.
As of now, officials have not responded to the concerns raised, but the issue highlights the importance of cultural sensitivity in public messaging campaigns.
