AASU General Secretary Criticizes Former President’s BJP Move
Guwahati, 28th January: The General Secretary of the All Assam Students Union (AASU), Shankar Jyoti Baruah, has strongly criticized the decision of former AASU President Dipanka Nath to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Baruah expressed disappointment, stating that they did not expect such a move from Nath, labeling it a “shameful act” and a “betrayal.”
Baruah mentioned that Nath had not discussed his decision with any AASU colleagues, emphasizing that had Nath consulted with them, they would have advised him against entering politics. The General Secretary went on to call Nath a traitor, asserting that his actions have raised doubts about the entire student organization, especially considering Nath’s prominent role in the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) movement.
In his criticism, Baruah stated that without the title of former AASU president, Nath holds no value, referring to him as a “big zero.” Baruah expressed reluctance to discuss Nath further, emphasizing that doing so might inadvertently increase Nath’s significance, especially in the eyes of the BJP.
Dipanka Nath, along with former AASU Vice-President Prakash Das, is scheduled to join the BJP, along with other political figures like expelled state Youth Congress president Angkita Dutta and former Congress MLA Bismita Gogoi.
