Guwahati: Around 25,000 kg of drugs that the Narcotics Control Bureau has recovered as part of a huge operation will be burnt in front of Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday in Guwahati.

A regional meeting on “Drug Trafficking and National Security,” which will be presided over by Shah, will address the drug situation in the northeastern region and possible solutions.

All of the northeastern states’ chief ministers and DGPs will attend the summit.

The NCB will destroy roughly 11,000 kg of narcotics on Saturday.

According to an official, Assam (2,531) and Tripura (11,144 kg) will also destroy around 13,675 kg of the drugs they have seized, including heroin, ganja, codeine cough syrup, and narcotic pills. In total, over 25,000 kg of drugs will be destroyed.

The Narendra Modi government’s dedication to eradicating drug use in society is demonstrated by the NCB’s unique mission to destroy confiscated drugs beginning on June 1. The NCB is an agency within the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The NCB made the decision to destroy 75,000 kg of drugs during this special campaign of 75 days in honour of the country’s 75th anniversary of independence.

The NCB achieved the target in just 60 days, well before the deadline, and reiterated its commitment to the nation regarding the fight against drug abuse. Around 82,000 kg of seized drugs were destroyed by July 30, another official said.

At a national meeting on July 30 in Chandigarh, organised as part of this campaign, the home minister began the virtual destruction of 31,000 kg of drugs by various NCB field units.

The NCB has reportedly destroyed roughly 1,09,000 kg of confiscated drugs during this special extermination drive from June 1–7, according to the official.
