Accused AIUDF MLA Granted Interim Bail by Gauhati High Court

Guwahati: A member of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) Ashraful Hussain was granted temporary bail on Thursday by the Gauhati High Court.

A girl was allegedly kidnapped and raped in Hussain’s government residence. Hussain is an MLA from Chenga in the Barpeta district.

Notably, a complaint was made at the Dispur Police Station alleging that Ritul Hussain, the suspect had kidnapped the complainant’s daughter on July 19, 2022, taken her to MLA Hussain’s residence at the Assam Secretariat in Guwahati on July 25 where they had allegedly spent the night, and then fled with her.

The complainant went on to say that MLA Hussain was the kidnapping’s mastermind and to pay the accused via an online transaction.

Hussain is also accused of organising their trip to Nagaland where the victim was subjected to physical and mental abuse.

The victim was reunited with her family after 45 days.

MLA Hussain said, “If someone wants to visit me, I allow them to come. They did visit me at my quarters once, but I bid them adieu soon afterwards. People usually leave my residence after meeting me, and they did likewise. If I have committed a crime, let the law take its course. If I am involved with this incident in any way, I will be punished as per provisions of the law.”

“They visited one evening when I was not present at the MLA hostel. However, they were allowed to stay since they informed me beforehand about their arrival. They left after spending a night there, and I will also inform the police about that,” he added.
