Guwahati: Almost after a decade of Jiah Khan’s suicide, a special CBI court in Mumbai acquitted her boyfriend and actor Sooraj Pancholi of abetment charges on Friday.
On June 3, 2013, Zia Khan’s body was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her home in Juhu, Mumbai. A six-page suicide note was then recovered from Zia’s house on June 7 during the investigation.
An actor named Suraj pancholi was presumed to be an accused on the basis of a suicide note. The CBI has said that the suicide note mentioned the intimate moments of Jiah and Suraj as well as the physical, mental torture being committed by Zia’s tone.
Suraj Pancholi was granted bail on July 1, 2013. But her mother Rabia Khan blamed Suraj for Zia’s death and accused him of murder. It was then that the CBI probed the case and said that Suraj had instigated Jiya to commit suicide.
The case was being heard in the court and the hearing ended in 2023.
The judge AS Sayyad last week heard the final arguments of both sides and reserved his judgement in the case.
Ten years after the incident, the court said in its verdict that Suraj Panchali was acquitted.
