Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury Urges Government Focus on Internal Stability amidst Myanmar Border Suspension
National Desk, 8th February: Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has raised concerns regarding the political unrest in Myanmar and called upon the Indian government to prioritize addressing internal discord within Manipur amidst the escalating situation.
Expressing apprehension over the deteriorating conditions in Myanmar, Chowdhury emphasized the need for the Indian government to concentrate efforts on resolving historical tensions between the Kukis and Meiteis communities in Manipur. He stressed the strategic importance of Manipur and urged proactive measures to ensure internal stability in the region, especially given the broader security considerations along the India-Myanmar border.
The decision to suspend the Free Movement Regime (FMR) between India and Myanmar, announced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to strengthening India’s borders and implementing robust border management mechanisms. This decision underscores the government’s proactive approach to addressing security challenges and demographic shifts along the frontier areas.
Home Minister Shah reiterated the government’s resolve to safeguard internal security and preserve the demographic composition of border regions adjacent to Myanmar. The suspension of the FMR aligns with the broader strategy of enhancing national security measures and safeguarding India’s territorial integrity.
