Adverse Weather Conditions Force Cancellation of Mankachar Rally Led by Assam Chief Minister
Guwahati, 5th May: The much-anticipated Mankachar rally, scheduled for today and led by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, faced an unexpected setback as adverse weather conditions thwarted the Chief Minister’s helicopter from taking off.
The rally, a pivotal component of the ongoing campaigning for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, aimed to rally support for Javed Islam, the candidate representing the region.
Earlier in the day, Guwahati witnessed fervent campaigning as the state geared up for the third phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. One of the standout events was a massive motorcycle rally spearheaded by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, igniting enthusiasm among supporters across the city.
Commencing at Khanapara on the city’s outskirts, the bike rally attracted a considerable turnout, with hundreds of motorcycles forming a spirited convoy that traversed through Guwahati. Supporters lined the streets, exuberantly cheering and showering flower petals on the Chief Minister’s convoy, creating an electrifying atmosphere.
Today marks the final day of campaigning before the third phase of elections in Assam. The constituencies of Guwahati, Barpeta, Kokrajhar, and Dhubri are poised to go to the polls on May 7, with 47 candidates vying for victory. An estimated 81 lakh voters are expected to exercise their democratic right in this crucial phase of the electoral process.
