Aeunachal: Two Arrested in Connection with Vandalism and Kidnapping at Itanagar Watch Store
Itanagar: The Itanagar Police have arrested two individuals, Shiva Sonam Liyak (29) and Tado Techi Tara (23), in connection with the vandalism and abduction at the Genesis Watch Store in Akashdeep Market Complex.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Rohit Rajbir Singh confirmed the arrests and stated that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other suspects involved in the crime.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday afternoon around 4:00 PM, saw a group of 10-15 individuals, some of whom were reportedly masked, forcibly enter the store.
In the absence of the owner, the group assaulted the staff, caused significant damage to property, and seized two DVRs containing CCTV footage. They also abducted two employees, taking them to the residence of Lezen Gyadi, where they were detained until police intervention led to their release.
Earlier, on January 7, the store owner, Takam Tanio, had filed a complaint after an incident in which ANSU President Lezen Gyadi, along with three others, allegedly attempted to steal two watches. After the owner intervened, Gyadi paid for one of the watches and left the premises.
The Itanagar Market Welfare Association (IMWA) has also raised concerns regarding potential threats to the Akashdeep Market Complex, and their representation has been merged with the ongoing investigation. The case has been registered under Itanagar P.S. Case No-05/2025 for multiple offences under the BNS, 2023.
Efforts are underway to identify additional suspects, with the police reviewing footage retrieved from one of the DVRs. CCTV footage of the incident has been released, and the public has been urged to help identify the remaining individuals involved.
SP Singh assured that the investigation is being pursued diligently, with the aim of holding those responsible accountable for their actions. The incident has sparked widespread concern in the city, prompting calls for stricter security measures to protect business owners and ensure safety in market complexes.
