AFSPA now applicable in only 4 Districts in Assam, Declares DGP GP Singh

Guwahati, 1st October: Director General of Police for Assam, GP Singh, on October 1 officially declared during a special event commemorating Assam Police Day at Guwahati’s 4th APBN Kahilipara that the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 (AFSPA) will now only be in effect in four districts of the state. These districts include Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Sivasagar, and Charaideo, while AFSPA has been completely lifted from the rest of the state.

Intelligence Bureau Director Tapam Kumar Deka, who attended the ceremony as a special guest, lauded the relentless efforts of Assam Police in fostering peace and unity within the state. He commended the state police for their instrumental role in bringing militant groups into mainstream society, thereby contributing to a peaceful era. Furthermore, he acknowledged the commendable work of the state police in combatting illegal drug trafficking and the smuggling of illicit liquor, thus facilitating the state’s progression towards a more prosperous future.
