Agarwal Takes the Reins: Mizoram Welcomes New Top Cop

Aizawl: In a significant bureaucratic reshuffle, Sharad Agarwal, a seasoned 1997-batch IPS officer from the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre, has been named the new Director General of Police for Mizoram. The announcement, confirmed by Ministry of Home Affairs orders issued on Monday, sees Agarwal stepping into the shoes of Anil Shukla, a 1996-batch IPS officer, who has been transferred to Delhi.

Agarwal, presently serving as the special commissioner, Economic Offences Wing, with the Delhi Police, brings a wealth of experience to his new role in the northeastern state. While the orders confirm Shukla’s relocation to the capital, his specific work allocation in Delhi remains undisclosed. Shukla’s tenure as DGP Mizoram began in June 2023, when he took over from Devesh Chandra Srivastava, a 1995-batch IPS officer. This appointment comes amidst earlier appeals from Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma to the Centre, who had advocated for the posting of David Lalrinsanga, another 1995-batch IPS officer, as the state’s top police official.
