AGP President Atul Bora Questions Congress’s Credibility Ahead of Lok Sabha Elections

Guwahati, 7th April: Assam Gana Parishad (AGP) president and minister Atul Bora has expressed skepticism regarding the Congress Lok Sabha election manifesto, emphasizing, “No one can trust Congress.”

Bora highlighted the perceived transient nature of Congress promises, asserting, “People know that they only give promises for the election and after that, they forget it.”

Reflecting on past actions, he questioned the efficacy of Congress’s track record, asking, “What did they do in the past?” Bora also commented on the current state of the Congress party, remarking, “At present, Congress is very weak.”

In contrast, Bora affirmed the achievements of the NDA government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating, “NDA came to power in 2014… he has honored his own commitment.” Regarding the ongoing election campaign, he stated, “The election is very close, and we are campaigning throughout the state.” Bora revealed AGP’s electoral strategy, noting, “We are contesting in two seats – Barpeta & Dhubri, while our partner party BJP is contesting in 11 seats and UPPL is contesting in one seat (Kokrajhar).”

On the topic of opposition unity, Bora criticized the Congress for its alleged failure to rally opposition forces. He remarked, “They (Congress) have failed to unite the Opposition.” Questioning the sincerity of Congress’s claims of unity, he stated, “Just on the eve of the election, they said that they were united.” Bora also expressed doubt regarding the effectiveness of Congress’s alliance, saying, “What is the present condition of Congress and other Opposition parties?” Specifically addressing the situation in Assam, he mentioned, “In Assam, the Congress state president said that they have 17 Opposition political parties under the umbrella of Congress, but people don’t know how many parties among them are really working on the ground.”

Despite these challenges, Bora expressed confidence in the NDA’s electoral prospects, articulating ambitious aspirations, stating, “The overall situation is in favor of the NDA.”
