Ahead of LS Polls, More than 250 people join Congress in Assam’s Biswanath during mass joining programme
Guwahati, 5th April: Amidst escalating preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections across the country, including Assam, over 250 individuals joined the Congress party in Biswanath district on April 4 during a mass joining programme. The induction ceremony was organized by the Biswanath District Congress in collaboration with the East Chhedwara Block Congress.
The first phase of Lok Sabha elections in Assam is scheduled for April 19. In this phase, there are 35 candidates vying for seats in five Lok Sabha constituencies: Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Kaziranga, and Sonitpur.
However, amidst the electoral fervor, it has come to light that four candidates, including Congress nominees Gaurav Gogoi and Premlal Ganju, have criminal cases pending against them. This revelation surfaced through affidavits submitted by the candidates at the time of filing nomination papers for the April 19 first phase polls. It is noteworthy that none of these candidates have been convicted of any charges.
