Ahead of Magh Bihu, Assam imposes temporary ban on poultry import
Ahead of the Magh Bihu or Bhogali Bihu the festival of feasting the Assam government has temporarily banned the import of poultry in view of the outbreak of Avian Influenza in many states across the country.
The Assam government had issued a notification on Friday stating that as a precautionary measure, temporary ban has been imposed on poultry imports through the western border of the state. The step has been taken in the interest of preventing the disease from spreading in Assam and other north-eastern states, the statement read.
According to the state government, Assam imports poultry products worth over Rs 400 crore annually.
