AIIMS Faculty Association is against renaming of Institution

Guwahati: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has been renamed to honour national heroes, however the Faculty Association of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (FAIMS) has objected to the move.

The group stated their worry that the elite institutes’ changing names will result in a major loss of identity.

The Faculty Association has pleaded with its members to share their thoughts on this matter.

“We at FAIMS ask your input on this extremely important topic, so that necessary action from our side should be made in this regard,” stated the letter addressed to them.

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) was proposed to have special names last month by the Centre based on local heroes, independence fighters, significant historical occurrences, local monuments, or areas with a unique geographical identity.

Official reports state that after the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare requested comments from them regarding this subject, the majority of the 23 AIIMS have provided a list of names.
