Air India Express Flight Witnesses Mid-Air Miracle as Baby Arrives Before Landing
National: Mumbai witnessed an extraordinary event on Thursday as an Air India Express flight from Muscat delivered not just passengers, but also a brand-new life, high above the Arabian Sea. A Thai national unexpectedly went into labour mid-flight, leading to the dramatic, yet successful, birth of a baby boy with the help of the quick-thinking cabin crew and a passenger nurse.
The medical emergency training of the Air India Express crew proved invaluable. As soon as they were alerted, Senior Cabin Crew member Sneha Naga, supported by Aishwarya Shirke, Asiya Khalid, and Muskan Chauhan, calmly took charge, transforming a section of the cabin into a makeshift delivery room. Their coordinated efforts, combined with constant communication with the cockpit, ensured a safe environment for the mother. A nurse, providentially travelling as a passenger, also lent her expertise, providing crucial assistance during the unexpected delivery.
Pilots Capt. Ashish Vaghani and Capt. Faraz Ahmed immediately contacted air traffic control, requesting a priority landing in Mumbai. This foresight ensured that as soon as the aircraft touched down, a waiting ambulance and emergency medical teams were on the tarmac, ready to provide immediate care. Both mother and newborn were swiftly transferred to a nearby hospital, accompanied by a female airline staff member for continued support.
Air India Express lauded the incident as a shining example of their team’s preparedness, coordination, and the innate care their staff provides. The airline is now collaborating with the Consulate General of Thailand in Mumbai to assist the new mother with her arrangements for returning home, highlighting their commitment beyond just the flight itself.
