Air India US-Delhi Flight Makes Emergency Landing At Sweden

Guwahati: An Air India flight from the US to Delhi was diverted to Stockholm, Sweden on Wednesday due to an oil leak in one of the engines. An oil leak was discovered in one of the engines of the flight, according to a senior Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) official.

The oil leak caused the engine to be turned off. Afterwards, the plane touched down safely in Stockholm.

Oil was observed dripping from engine two’s drain mast during the ground inspection, the official reported, noting that the inspection was still in progress.

According to a representative of the airline, a technical issue caused the flight from Newark, New Jersey, to be diverted to Stockholm, Sweden. Due to a medical issue, an Air India flight on Monday that was en route from New York to Delhi was diverted to London.

Air India inaugurated its first non-stop service from Delhi to Stockholm, Sweden in 2017 using the Dreamliner B-787.

Ashwani Lohani, chairman of Air India and Gautam Bhattacharyya, charge d’affaires of the Swedish Embassy attended the inaugural event at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi which also featured cake cutting and lamp lighting ceremonies.

Scandinavia’s airport with the fastest growth is Stockholm Arlanda. With a total of 19 direct connections currently created, there has been a significant increase in the number of intercontinental direct routes to and from Stockholm Arlanda since 2013.
