AIUDF Chief Badruddin Ajmal Distances Party from Arrested MLA’s Controversial Remarks on Pahalgam Attack

Guwahati: AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal has publicly distanced his party from the inflammatory statements made by party MLA Aminul Islam, who was arrested earlier today over his controversial comments linking the Pahalgam terror attack to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

In a statement released soon after Islam’s arrest, Ajmal expressed disappointment over the remarks, calling them “unfortunate” and clarifying that they did not represent the views of the party. “I have been informed that AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam has been arrested over his remarks on the Pahalgam attack. I have heard what he said, and it is unfortunate,” Ajmal said.

Affirming the AIUDF’s position on terrorism, Ajmal emphasized that the party stands firmly with the state government in its fight against terror. “We stand with our state government, as terrorists are terrorists without any caste or religion,” he stated, distancing the party from any communal or politically charged narrative.

The AIUDF chief also noted that the party had already issued a formal condemnation of the Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 lives, and that the statement had been published in several national newspapers. He reiterated the party’s commitment to peace and justice, while subtly urging for political restraint.

Islam’s arrest came after his comments during a campaign rally stirred strong reactions. The Dhing MLA had controversially claimed that the Pulwama and Pahalgam attacks were politically motivated, raising suspicions about the central leadership’s role. His speech prompted a sharp response from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who had called for action against anyone making statements supportive of anti-national narratives.

With Ajmal now publicly disowning the remarks, the arrest has not only sparked legal consequences for Islam but also political isolation within his own party.
