AIUDF Chief Claims Repeal of Muslim Marriages Act Prelude to Uniform Civil Code

Guwahati, 24th February: Badruddin Ajmal, the chief of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), asserted that the revocation of the Muslim Marriages Act in Assam signifies the initial stage of implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). The UCC proposal aims to establish a uniform set of laws governing every citizen, replacing personal laws based on religious scriptures and customs.

Addressing the media, Ajmal criticized the government’s move, alleging that it seeks to polarize votes by inciting Muslims. He emphasized that the Muslim community will oppose such efforts and predicted that the BJP government in Assam will face consequences for its actions.

In addition to his remarks on the Muslim Marriages Act, Ajmal extended support to the INDIA Alliance for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He expressed confidence that the Alliance will present a significant challenge to the BJP-NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Ajmal asserted that AIUDF will secure three seats in the elections and will lend its support to the INDIA Alliance.

Commenting further on the repeal of the Muslim Marriage Act, Ajmal reiterated his stance, suggesting that the BJP’s decision will lead to its demise in Assam. He criticized the government’s actions, implying that it will face repercussions from the Muslim community in the state.
