AIUDF MLA Criticizes Assam Chief Minister’s Madrasa Comments as Anti-Muslim

Guwahati, 27th October: Aminul Islam, an MLA from the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), has expressed strong criticism of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma‘s comments regarding the closure of madrasas in the state, labeling them as evidence of an anti-Muslim stance.

During a recent election campaign in Chhattisgarh, Chief Minister Sarma claimed that shutting down madrasas in Assam was his biggest achievement. Responding to this statement, MLA Aminul Islam suggested that Sarma’s remarks reveal a communal mindset and an anti-Muslim attitude. Islam further asserted that the Chief Minister is making such comments in other states because he has not accomplished any significant achievements for Assam.

Islam asserted that the Chief Minister’s greatest life accomplishment is closing madrassas, a clear demonstration of his intolerance and anti-Muslim stance. He questioned how much more the Chief Minister could say, adding that if he had served the people of Assam well, he would have made the same claim in Chhattisgarh and other states. He argued that the Chief Minister’s claim of having accomplished anything positive for Assam is baseless, given his lack of accomplishments in other areas.

It’s worth noting that the Election Commission of India (EC) has issued a show cause notice to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over his ‘Akbar’ remark during a poll campaign. The notice requires Sarma to respond by 5 p.m. on October 30. This move came after the Congress filed complaints against Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Sarma, alleging that their remarks during the Chhattisgarh assembly poll campaign violated the model code of conduct.

The Congress’ complaint against Sarma pertained to a speech he delivered in Chhattisgarh’s Kawardha on October 18, during which he campaigned against Congress candidate Mohammad Akbar. In the same rally, Chief Minister Sarma also referred to the closure of madrasas in Assam as his ‘biggest achievement’ in life.
