Aizawl-based Meiteis might be airlifted by the Manipur government due to potential threats: Reports

National Desk. 22nd July: Manipur government has planned to airlift Meiteis from Mizoram on July 22 amid the escalating tension in the state following the video of two women being paraded naked by a group of men went viral.

Security was beefed up with Mizoram Police stepping up security measures to protect the safety of Meiteis in the state’s capital city of Aizawl.

”In anticipation of possible development of tension which could threaten the security of Meiteis living in Aizawl, due to the public outrage against the recent viral video of two tribal Kuki – Zo brutally assaulted in Manipur. Security arrangement is made in order to ensure the safety of Meitei in Aizawl,” the letter read.
According to the letter, security has been set up at Vety College in Selesih, Mizoram University in Tanhril, RIPANS in Zemabawk, and ZMC in Falkawn.

It was further reported that that the government has plans to airlift Meiteis out of Aizawl, but the exact date of the evacuation is yet to be confirmed.

The PAMRA declaration, which urged Meiteis to leave Mizoram for their safety, prompted the Mizo Student’s Union (MSU) to announce its intention to carry out a Meitei census at various Mizoram educational institutions. The decision was made in the midst of current conflict in Manipur.

There is still a threat to the Meiteis living in Aizawl despite all of these changes, thus the state government of Manipur is preparing to airlift them from Mizoram using special ATR flights that operate between Aizawl-Imphal and Aizawl-Silchar.
