Ajanta Neog Distributes Financial Aid to Affected Traders Of Jorhat Fire
Guwahati: The traders who were affected by the large fire in Jorhat Chowk Bazaar were given a one-time aid of Rs. 50,000 on Sunday by Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog.
Reports claim that 226 of the 241 impacted dealers who received one-time support.
The assistance was given by Ajanta Neog on behalf of the state government.
She also stated that a temporary market area for the impacted vendors will be established by the Jorhat District Administration next to a parking lot that is still under construction.
It should be noted that a terrible fire that started late on February 16 at Chowk Bazar destroyed approximately 300 establishments.
Officials from the fire department claim that the fire started in a fabric store close to the market’s main entrance. The bazaar was then completely consumed by the raging inferno.
Assam Revenue Minister Jogen Mohan visited the incident spot and took stock the situation following the outbreak of the massive fire. The district administration was tasked by the minister to conduct an investigation to determine what started the fire.
After the unfortunate event, almost 20 fire fighters arrived on the scene. Moreover, firefighters from OIL, ONGC, Mariani, and Teok were dispatched to the scene and immediately got to work.
There were no reports of fatalities or injuries as a result of the incident.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal visited the tragedy-stricken Chowk Bazar later on February 18.
The union minister took stock of the situation along with Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, local BJP MLA Hitendra Nath Goswami and Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Pulak Mahanta.
Sarbananda Sonowal had announcement that the government will help the bazaar’s impacted vendors get back on their feet. The union minister added that he will discuss the situation with the Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Taking to twitter, the union minister wrote, “Visited Chowk Bazar in Jorhat, which was devastated by a tragic fire recently & interacted with locals, shopkeepers & businessmen to take stock of losses & damage. I Urge Hon’ble CM Shri @himantabiswa to extend all possible support to those whose livelihoods have been affected.”
