AJP leader opens fire in Assam’s Lakhimpur

Guwahati: In an unusual incident, an Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) leader allegedly opened fire at a truck driver in Lakhimpur district of Assam on Saturday.

The incident took place in the Boginadi area of the district.

The injured driver has been identified as Kunbahar Ali who is a resident of Barpeta.

According to reports, Ali was shot by the AJP leader with his licenced gun while he was parking a broiler-feed carrying truck at a godown in Boginadi.

Reportedly, the AJP leader got into a verbal altercation with the driver over parking, after which the AJP leader fired a live round of ammunition into the air before shooting the driver in the chest.

The critically injured driver was rushed to a nearby hospital.

However, the doctors referred him to the Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh for further treatment.

It needs to be mentioned that no reports of the AJP leader’s arrest had been received, until the filing of this report.
